Samad Gardens Initiative Mullein Mint Tea is made from freshly grown and hand-processed peppermint, spearmint, and mullein leaf. It is formulated for respiratory support, digestive support, and an overall cooling effect.

 

Mullein supports and soothes the upper respiratory system and nourishes mucous membranes in the lungs.

 

Peppermint and spearmint are cooling herbs the soothe the respiratory tract.

 

Ingredients: Peppermint, Spearmint, and Mullein

Suggested Use: Drink one cup one to three times daily or as directed by your healthcare practitioner.

Warnings: Do not use if pregnant or nursing.

 

How to brew:

 

Herbal Infusions:

 

Makes one 8 oz. cup.

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tablespoon herb of choice

  • 8 oz. water heated to 180-212°

 

Directions:

  • Fill a reusable tea ball,  spoon, cotton tea bag, with the loose herb. 

  • Pour water over tea, cover the cup, and steep 3-5 minutes, or until desired strength.

  • Remove infuser and enjoy!

 

Herbal Decoctions:

This is better for when you are looking to really get the most benefits out of the herbs.

 

Makes one 8 oz. cup. 

 

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon herb of choice

  • 8 oz. water

 

Directions

  • Put herbs in a small saucepan and cover with 8 oz. water.

  • Cover and slowly heat to a simmer.

  • Gently simmer for 10-12 minutes.

  • Strain into a mug and enjoy!

Samad Gardens Initiative is a Connecticut based herb farm and garden education enterprise. Samad offers ongoing education support for new gardeners and farmers with a focus on serving the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) community. 

 

Educational offerings include an incubator farm and apprenticeship program at Auerfarm, as well as ongoing classes on gardening, foraging, seed saving, self-sufficiency, regenerative growing techniques, and more.

 

Auerfarm is a 120-acre non-profit educational farm located in Bloomfield, CT. It is adjacent to Auerfarm State Reserve and the MDC reservoir. This vast expanse of preserved land brings unique wildlife and rare opportunities to explore nature in a densely populated region.

 

Since its launch in 2020, Samad Gardens Initiative has delivered farm and garden trainings and presentations in partnership with UCONN's Solid Ground Urban Farmer Training Program, Working Lands Alliance, CT NOFA, NOFA Mass, CT Resource Conservation and  Development, New CT Farmer’s Alliance, Windsor Public Library, Windsor Adult Education, Hartford Public Library, Common Ground Urban Education Center & High School (New Haven), Keney Park Sustainability Project (Hartford), Green Village Initiative (Bridgeport), and more.

 

In addition to education, Samad's farm production provides herbs and fresh, organic produce to their community in partnership with the Liberated Land Cooperative, Mercado Popular, Distinctive Ideas, Connecticut Foodshare, and to other restaurants and community partners.  They sell their herbal teas, spices, and seasonal produce at various markets throughout the state including the Ellington Farmers Market, Coventry Farmer’s Market, Windsor Farmer’s Market, and Blue Back Farmer’s Market.
